OooooOOOooooOOOOO-bento

The cheapest thing for lunch, aside from making it yourself and bringing it to work, is an o-bento(lunch box) from a convenience store or well, the trunk of someone’s van. Not far from my work, ironically located directly across the street from the super expensive Prada glass building, is a mini-van parked in an apartment building parking spot, trunk propped, sign posted, and gas burners on. This mini-van is run by a somewhat crazy lady who sells Thai and Korean style o-bento, and some of the hottest green curry I’ve ever ingested. Today was red curry day, which made me sweat my eyebrows off. It’s nice to have alternatives to the $10-$20 lunches that have become a sort of standard in Omotesando, which of course is populated with wealthy folk, so it’s no surprise. I’m trying to save a little money in the next two months for my vacation home in September. I can’t wait to get home and stuff myself with tasty Mexican burritos again.

Not much else is new over here. I tried the new Fanta drink tonight, raspberry flavor, nice and tart. Fanta is really cool here, there’s a new flavor every month(I think, or maybe every other month). My favorites were melon flavor and apple flavor. I love melon soda, anything that looks funky and green has to taste equally funky and sweet, and melon soda delivers. Another nice addition to the summer lineup of beverages are the clear jasmine tea drinks and of course, Pepsi Blue. Pepsi Blue is nasty no matter which country it invades, but it is blue, and therefor earns it’s place on my funky favorite drink list. I suppose that’s all for today, till next entry!

UPDATE!!!

I made a small mistake, I thought the new Fanta drink was raspberry, but I was horribly wrong! It was lychee flavor, and tastes very much like carbonated perfume! Blah! The illustrations on the front of the bottle look just like raspberries.

Me too! I went around for weeks telling everybody I knew about the great new raspberry Fanta, until one of my friends pointed out quite tactfully that they called that fruit a LYCHEE in Japan. I felt pretty stupid.
