Pineapple?!?

wow!

Just the other day, on my way to lunch, I spotted this thing at the flower shop. I wasn’t sure whether it was a pineapple, or some kind of seed-pod, but I couldn’t resist so I got one. Even the store clerk wasn’t sure what it is, so I’m going to pretend it’s a pineapple. Now I have to think of a name…

This is so fascinating, of all the bizarre things like panty vending machines and lightsaber humping zombies I write about, this post about a potted plant got the most comments.

'just like to clarify, a cycad isn't a palm...it's a misnomer. cycads are gymnosperms, while palms are angiosperms; the greatest difference among plants.

it's a cycad called sago palm. trust me. the family name is palmieri

It's certainly an interesting plant. There are many scattered around the Tokyo area, but they're enormous while mine has remained petite.

That is nether a palm or a pineapple. Often referred to as a palm It is really a member of the cycad family better known as a Sago,
