SIGMA 50mm 2.8 DG MACRO (A.K.A. El Cheapo Macro)

Last weekend I spent way too much time in the giant Akihabara Yodobashi Camera shop playing around with gadgets and camera attachments. The shop staff noticed me messing around with one of the display models and smartly asked me what I like to take photos of. My dear readers know I took all too many photos of food, so I told the staff and he spent the next hour teaching me all about Macro lenses. He did such a good job that I went home and ordered myself a cheap one from Japan’s discount shopping site Kakaku.com. I run with a Nikon D80, so I ordered a Sigma 50mm 2.8 DG Macro lens with a Nikon mount. I couldn’t be happier.

Waki and I took a stroll through the Imperial Palace grounds to enjoy all the beautiful flowers in bloom now. I took my new lens out for a test drive and I’m VERY happy. It will take some practice and getting used to, as about 60% of my shots came out acceptable and the remaining 40% were fairly awful. The ones above were neat so I decided to post them here. Lots of interesting plants on the Imperial Palace grounds. Waki had a lot of fun too, she loves the bright pink flowers that are in full bloom now.

Your closeup photos are beautiful! Bravo! Keep up the nice phtography. We can see how much you enjoy photography, just like your Dad. You could frame these.
The grounds of the Imperial Palace must be lovely in the Spring. Everything here is starting to bloom too, violets, daffodils, llacs. We’ve had some wonderful weather.
    Love to you and Waki,
    Mom
