Gakken Mook Theremin Kit
I’ve been obsessing over this since I saw it in a Japanese YouTube video not too long ago. It’s a mini four legged theremin that’s assembled from a kit included with issue #17 of Gakken Mook’s Otona no Kagaku (2,300 yen). The magazine itself features a beautiful history of Russian technology. Gakken Mook publishes a fantastic series of do-it-yourself kits that include all kinds of neat things like pin-hole cameras and da Vinci’s helicopter. They’re highly sought after which makes them a little tough to find, particularly the back issues. This is probably a re-issue as I’ve been looking for it for ages and only today I found it at the Libro bookstore below the Parco in Shibuya. Thanks to Shaun I’ve found a new hobby messing with obscure audio gadgets to create music.
