Kamen Rider was my bartender

As we walked from Ebisu down to Nakameguro, I pulled out the latest Metropolis and pointed out an interesting bar that we’d see on the way. It was upstairs, with only a chandelier and painted ceiling visible from the ground. We walked up and were greeted by two uniformed bartenders who looked like they were straight out of a comic book. Thunderbolt is a long bar, not far from Nakameguro station, lit with chandeliers and a beautiful, wall covering installation piece of metal rods that form rain and cloud shapes. This bar is now at the top of my list of THE hottest bars in Tokyo. Our excellent bartender provided more than enough reason for this decision. From simple questions, he proved himself a professional mixologist by concocting completely original drinks that blew our heads off. From his tasty Thundbolt and it’s beautiful color and taste derived from absinthe, to the Earthquake, to Waki’s sweet, black sugar plum wine drink. The Thunderbolt was definitely the highlight, with it’s 5 levels of power from which we could choose. 1 being on par with a gin tonic, 5 being on par with,… we decided to save that for our next visit with our choice of mid-level power. While mixing, he reminded us with a smile of Van Goghes addiction to Absinthe and why it was banned for so long.
The second highlight of the evening, and this was just pure luck, was the other bartender who was assisting the owner as a favor for just that evening. After mixing a few drinks, his buddy(the guy mixing our drinks) pulled him over and introduced us to Kamen Rider Todoroki! For those of you in Western countries, he’s otherwise known as The Masked Rider, a masked Japanese super hero. To his surprise, I’ve actually seen him on TV a few times, so he came and offered to pose with me for a photo. Here I am, dressed like a Yale student posing with Kamen Rider Todoroki who just finished mixing some drinks at a bar. He even gave us some toys from his TV series. This place rocks!!!
